Microsoft has announced a new online service called Microsoft Online Services: Business Productivity Online Suite.
The SharePoint online product can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/online/sharepoint-online.mspx.
This promises to be an interesting but limited offering. It offers users access to an administration panel (not similar to Central Administration) where they can add site collections, sites, and users. There is limited ability to customize the SharePoint offering. If a company is looking for a custom solution that utilizes SharePoint, at least for now, they will still want their own implementation. For those users looking to create a quick and easy collaboration space without the maintenance aspect, then the Microsoft offering is a good solution.
